A complex genre - Thriller

A thriller is a wide and complex genre that circles around tension and suspense, in which a thriller repeatedly has the audience questioning themselves because of the different things happening in a thriller. Furthermore, a thriller brings a sense of realism to a film because the mise-en-scene is set in a natural environment, in which the audience is familiar with the settings because of the surroundings around the characters.
A thriller is a complex genre because there are many different sub-genres that a thriller fits into, for example an action thriller, a crime thriller, a science fiction thriller and a psychological thriller. Moreover, thrillers are a difficult genre to categorise because a thriller can be classified as a horror or slasher because of the similarities they share.
